Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
Another amazing, historic lighthouse located in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. In June of 1999, when the lighthouse was only 15 feet from the shore (after starting more than 1,500 feet away), the National Park Service undertook the massive task of physically moving the lighthouse with an elaborate "train" system, with a total distance travelled of nearly 3,000 feet. It is once again at approximately 1,500 feet from the shore, on much safer ground.
